Complete Beginner's Guide to Mandalas & Sacred Geometry Art
If you're totally new to the art of sacred geometry and mandalas then this video is for you. We're going to be looking at essential tools and how to use them to achieve perfect precision then we'll put those tips into practice and draw some sacred geometry together.
Then I'll show you the best way to draw mandala grids using ratios that appear in nature so you can harmonise your designs with the universe. We'll keep going and draw a mandala together with some pattern tips you can put into practice and techniques that will improve your symmetry.
We'll finish the mandala off with ink and reflect on what's going on in the mind while you're drawing geometric art.
It's a pleasure to bring this in...

Good video, lots of great advice; I’ve long been fascinated by this stuff, & once I get a good locking compass I’ll surely be integrating it into some of my own art. I do just want to point out, though… That’s not exactly what Jung’s “active imagination” technique is. You’re correct that active imagination is intended as a technique by which the conscious self can communicate with facets of the unconscious mind, bringing them into consciousness, & you’re correct that mandalas sometimes emerged as part of the output of what he & his patients would experience & document as part of their active imagination journey... They’re not unrelated (Jung did see them as symbols of wholeness, the interconnectedness of apparently distinct phenomena such as the conscious & unconscious, the “self” & the “other,” which was his hypothesis for why they were an archetypal form that reoccurred in mystical traditions & in more than one person’s active imagination results. However, drawing mandalas is not an essential part of the technique itself. To summarize it in very brief & simplistic terms, the technique basically involves turning inwards, in an imaginative/visionary state, imagining up a scene in the mind’s eye, eventually subjectively stepping into that scene, & once integrated into the imagined scene, having conversations with one or more occupants of the imaginary realm… This technique takes advantage of the fact that, if they aren’t something you’re consciously, intentionally crafting, if you aren’t consciously coming up with the words they say (the way you would if you were very intentionally trying to make up a story, or something like that), then the only other source these characters & their words could possibly stem from is your unconscious/subconscious mind. So, if carried out properly, this technique can indeed allow your conscious self to communicate with manifestations of your unconscious self, & the idea was to use this in a kind of alchemical, self-actualization process, where you write down & later interpret & process what these figures of the unconscious tell you, & in doing so you not only learn about yourself, but you develop a relationship with parts of yourself that you may not have even known existed, & for example, if one expresses distress because it’s needs are not being met in some way, you can act to remedy whatever is troubling them- you can adjust your life to make sure that these deep-seated aspects of yourself are fulfilled & healthy & integrated into your conscious self in new ways, which can hypothetically be a huge step forward on your path. Jung considered this to be, perhaps, even more significant in its potential & implications that dream interpretation, because of the way it could directly connect the conscious & the unconscious, to the extent of even allowing communication. However, he also recognized that it was a potentially risky & maybe even dangerous process, which is NOT to be undertaken lightly… I’d consider it comparable in terms of risk, gravity, & potential reward, to the use of psychedelics. Both of these experiences are certainly not for everyone- you need to really have both feet on the ground, a firm grasp of reality, & a certain adventurous/curious/exploratory spirit, IMO. He also encouraged people to carry this out under the observation of a trained, Jungian psychoanalyst/therapist- someone who understands the practice & who can basically fulfill the same role as a “trip-sitter” in psychedelic experiences… A sober supervisor to make sure you are okay, safe, & able to go as deep as you need to go, but also can be calmed down & cared for (or else can have help called if needed) from beginning to end- someone trusted & reliable to ensure things don’t go haywire, so that the experience stays productive & therapeutic & doesn’t veer off-track in some way. IIRC Jung himself talked about how he could get sucked so deep into an active imagination experience that it could become genuinely difficult to pull himself back out & discern where the imagined world ends & the external world begins (which is quite reminiscent of the kind of confusion that can occur during deep psychedelic-induced visionary experiences). Anyway, none of that is to scare people away from this technique unnecessarily, but it is absolutely paramount that people take it seriously & don’t delve into it lightly just because they don’t need drugs to induce it. It’s a significant & potentially very impactful experience, & having a psychoanalyst/therapist to at least help you integrate such experiences is definitely advisable, lest you misinterpret what some interaction means & develop some weird complex about yourself that may not even be based in reality. But yeah- it’s just that, sometimes, during these experiences, while people were writing down/sketching things that came up during the experience, mandala-like patterns would be among them. Plenty of other times, they’re not (& certainly you wouldn’t usually be going through the whole complex process of geometrically constructing a mandala during the experience- it might inspire a design for one, but doing something that involved would surely take you out of the experience). It is definitely advisable to record the conversations & other experiences you have during an active imagination session, because like with a dream or a psychedelic experience, the details can slip away quickly after you are back to a normal waking state of consciousness, but that doesn’t have to involve drawing at all if the significant details aren’t visual. It may be writing or audio-transcribing conversations, or describing locations… It can vary a lot). It’s a fascinating subject, for sure.

I’ve been studying Carl Jung’s work for a few years. I’m absolutely astounded by him. I hadn’t read that he refers to mandalas until your posts. I’ve had this nagging inclination to learn to draw mandalas as of late and here I am on your beautiful channel learning the two are connected. Of course they are. 😅 Thank you for teaching and creating. I am thoroughly enjoying your art, your way of sharing knowledge and your personality. You’ll see me in the members circle soon. 🙏🏽 ✨

Just because it works doesn't make it true, this is an over complicated way of drawing it. Most ancient ankh's don't have the same dimensions. They just drew them because they have ankh shapes. Not perfectly mathematical, just symbols of life.
